I BELIEVE EVERY CHILD IS GIFTED AND TALENTED

This week the Washington Post ran the article "Md. school district mistakenly told third-graders they were on waiting list for gifted program" which concerns me deeply. Please cut and paste the link below to view the article.

I don't like a system that "judges" students after only 2 years of academic study on arbritrarily decides who is worthy of status as "gifted and talented!" Why aren't ALL of our children being taught to the best of their ability?! If you agree that ALL of our children deserve the BEST education, please support me and share your thoughts. 


Diversity Is Our Strength! I am proud to be a third generation Turkish-American with my family roots reaching back 100 years! I have chosen as a profession to practice IMMIGRATION LAW for the last 20 years because I Believe in the Statue of Liberty and what it stands for in New York (sorry New Jersey people) Harbor. What makes America the strongest nation is our cultural diversity. Education in America is the GREAT EQUALIZER!! I will do everything I can to make sure that no matter a child's socioeconomic or ethnic background, they will have every resource they need to be READY, WILLING, and ABLE to be their best! I will work with parents, neighborhoods, and communities to end the "achievement gap" in MCPS. As I see it, Yesterday was Yesterday! It is history. What we do TODAY, we will do in such a way that the only limit on our student's Tomorrow is within their imagination and dreams!!

TEACHERS MATTER!!

I have lived in Montgomery County now for 20 years and both of my children have elementary, middle, and high school in the Walter Johnson cluster. I have never heard of a single teacher, administrator, or staff say anything nice about MCEA, the teacher's union, during that time. In noticing the national debate on teacher's salaries and rights, I am concerned about how MCPS will protect both our students and our teachers. The Teacher's contract ends next year. I don't believe a solution of simply increasing teacher pay is the solution. We need to do MORE for our teachers!!

I want our students and our teachers to come to school EVERY school day being READY, WILLING, and ABLE to be their best. We must give our teachers the resources they need to TEACH, and students the resources they need to LEARN. I want students and teachers to think and say each time they enter their school "I LOVE MY SCHOOL!!"

I pledge to fight for our teachers right to be educators! I want them to be the model for the nation and the world. MCPS will be known as the benchmark of professionalism. We will write the "book" on how to teach. We will ensure that every teacher has a graduate degree, and we will find the funding to ensure that we have the best educated teachers, and the best educated students in the nation. We will be #1 in quality education. When employers consider where to locate, they will know that the best educated workforce is Montgomery County, Maryland!!

THINK ABOUT IT!! MCPS HAS A BUDGET OF $2.5 BILLION, AND OVER 24,000 EMPLOYEES. EVEN IF YOU DON'T HAVE CHILDREN IN MCPS, THE BOARD OF EDUCATION POSITION MATTERS!! YOUR VOTE MATTERS!! I HAVE OVER 30 YEARS EXPERIENCE AS A TEACHER AND LEADER IN EDUCATION! I UNDERSTAND THAT IT MATTERS, AND THAT IT MATTERS TO YOU!!
